I’m only doing HLTAID009 CPR, but the enrolment says I am completing the full course?

Our enrolment software only allows us to enter one competency, it’s still the same enrollments, but you leave after completing the CPR component.

I only need a refresher course, not the full course.

“Refresher courses” do not exist any more.  All our courses are the same, whether it’s your first course, or you have done many courses.

Where are the courses held?

General public courses are held in Moss Vale. We can run a course on site at your premises, if you have more than 8 participants.

Am I allowed to bring something to kneel on to do CPR?

Yes. The requirement for competency is that CPR is completed on the floor. You are allowed to use padding for your knees.

I have a physical restriction, where I can’t get down onto the floor to perform CPR, or to check a patient. Is that an issue?

The Australian Government First Aid Companion Volume 2018 states:

It is important to note that the HLTAID competency standards do require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment.

These standards relate to the level of performance required to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.

Due to the potential risk to health and safety where a nominated first aider, or worker with duty of care, does not have the ability to perform resuscitation and/or first aid to the performance standard, it is not appropriate to issue a statement of attainment to students who are physically unable to meet the assessment requirements.

How long will my accreditations last for?

This is dependent on your Work Health & Safety policies for your particular industry. Most WHS policies state one (1) year re certification for CPR, and three (3) years for Provide First Aid.
